Rawdha Al Ketbi repurposes abandoned objects from across the UAE through photography, mixed media, and installation to explore time, decay, transformation, and preservation. Al Gaidh (2024), commissioned for the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial (2024–2025) and installed in Al Ain Oasis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, explores the cyclical relationship between nature and growth rooted in ancestral traditions. Drawing on water that nourishes the nakheel (palm trees), the artist has created copper ladders that intertwine with the trees. Their coloured patina, caused by oxidation, bridges water and land while marking the passage of time. As the portals absorb the summer heat, the work reflects on nature’s resilience and the balance between preservation and change.
