Roudhah Al Mazrouei’s practice explores cultural memory and ecological heritage through forms rooted in the landscapes and traditions of the Emirates. Tassa (2026) reimagines the traditional Emirati gold headpiece as a monumental public landscape. Drawing on heirloom jewellery passed down generations, the work transforms its cascading chains, curved forms, and ornamental details into an immersive environment that unfolds across an Al Ain roundabout. Rather than preserving these forms as static symbols of heritage, the sculpture invites a renewed encounter through scale, movement, and play. Developed through conversations and workshops with children, Tassa embraces imagination as a form of cultural continuity, allowing inherited traditions to evolve through new ways of seeing. The work proposes heritage as something lived, shared, and continually reimagined.

Roudhah Al Mazrouei is a visual artist and researcher whose practice explores cultural memory, ecological heritage, and overlooked landscape archives. Working primarily in oil painting alongside film, sculpture, sound, and public art, she repeatedly returns to the mountains and villages of the northern Emirates, treating the land as a repository of inherited knowledge. Through natural materials and archival research, her work reflects on identity, heritage, and the resilience of local traditions. Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale; Personal Structures at Palazzo Mora during the Venice Biennale; the Saatchi Gallery, London; and the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival. She received the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award (2022) for a permanent public installation at Rabdan Marina and was named an Emirati Woman Achiever (2024).
